Abstract

1,114,250. Feeding sheets. ENGLISH NUMBERING MACHINES Ltd. 2 March, 1966, No. 9072/66. Heading B6B. In apparatus for separating sheets from the top of a stack 102, the top sheet is first bulged relatively to the stack by means of a clamp 132, and a movable wiper 108 which is moved towards the clamp. As described, the apparatus is used to deflect upwardly the leaves of a book 102 carried on a movable support 3 urged by spring means in the direction A to clamp the free edges of the book against a fixed abutment 107. A rubber wiper pad 108, engaging the top leaf of the book, is carried by a bracket 114 which, together with two opposed leaf springs 115, 116, is secured to a pivotal shaft 119 mounted in side plates 120. The plates 120 are pivotal about a shaft 122 by means of a camfollower 123, 125 engaging a cam 135 which is secured to a drive shaft 136. The cam-follower is urged against the cam 135 by a spring 26 anchored on one of a pair of arms 128 which are secured together by pins 129, 131. The arms 128 are secured to the shaft 122, and carry a rubber clamping member 132 on a resilient mounting 134, and the member 132 is urged against the book 102 by cam means which rock the shaft 122. The leaf spring 115 engages the pin 129 and urges the wiper 108 against the top leaf of the book 102; but this pressure is relieved by the engagement of a bent plate 151 with the opposite leaf spring 116. The plate 151 is carried by cam-follower 146, 147 engaging a cam 143 fixed on the drive shaft 136, the follower beng pivotal on the shaft 122. In one cycle of operation, as the shaft 136 rotates, the rubber wiper pad 108 moves upwardly along the book to bulge the top leaf, and then moves downwardly. The plate 151 is now caused to relieve the pressure of the pad 108, so that if a second leaf has been bulged it will fall back. The pad 108 again moves upwardly so that only the top. leaf is bulged.
