Abstract
1,113,832. Visible signalling apparatus. DACO INSTRUMENT CO. Inc. 3 Aug., 1965 [6 Aug., 1964], No. 33220/65. Heading G4F. [Also in Divisions E2 and H1] A latching device for a rotary electromagnetic actuator comprises a yoke 48 mounted on the actuator 34 carrying a shaft 61 arranged for reciprocating motion parallel to the rotational axis of the actuator 34, shaft 61 carrying a bracket 54 arranged in one position of the shaft to engage a member (40) on the actuator and, in a further position of shaft 61, to release the member (40). The actuator is preferably a two-position indicator similar to that disclosed in Specification 988,819 in which energization of a solenoid 26 creates a field about poles 12, 14 and hence causes rotation of an armature 24 and an indicating disc 30 against the bias of a spring 28. A ferromagnetic latching rotor 40, secured to a rotor shaft 18, is held in the deflected position by a detent 120 mounted on a bracket 54 carried by the shaft 61 until released by manual actuation of a pushbutton 63. Bar magnets 76, 78, magnetic member 82 and non-magnetic spacer 80 are mounted on bracket 54 so as to provide alternative or additional latching of rotor 40. Alternatively, rotor 40 may be formed from bar magnets 90, 92 oppositely polarized with respect to 76, 78. Actuation of push-button 63 to the left then causes the pole of magnet 78 to come adjacent a like pole of magnet 90 and hence helps to repel the rotor to its normal position. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 988,819.
