A prefabricated tile 11 comprises a preformed, frangible grid (Fig. 2) with a boundary wall 13, partition-forming walls 14, 15 connecting opposed sides to form cells 16 and being about twice as thick as the walls 13, a hardenable masonary filler 20 giving a teorazolike surface filling each cell 16, a projecting portion 17, 18 or 19 engaging the filler 20, the outer surface of the finished tile 11 being smooth, the tile 11 being adhered to a supporting surface e.g. 10 (Fig. 1) and the grid 12 in use abutting against adjacent grids 12 so that the thickness of contiguous walls 13 is the same as that of the walls 14, 15. In place of the projections 18, 19, there may be wall openings, so that the filler 20 in one cell 16 is connected to that of adjacent cells 16. The filler may include particles of different colours and /or sizes and the tile may include a moisture and/or termite-proof barrier on the back. The tile may be made to break along a partition wall and the grid 12 may be of deformable synthetic plastics material. In producing a panel (Fig. 1) the tiles are ground on both sides and supported by I-beam bars 32' receiving the upper and lower tile edges and having hooks extending through slots in posts 35. A channel bar 36 may be adjacent the floor to support the lowermost tiles.
