Abstract
A condensation product having fungicidal properties is prepared by heating pentachlorophenol with an ether of a methylol compound of urea or one of its derivatives which together with formaldehyde gives an N-methylol compound with a C1-C5 monohydric aliphatic alcohol. Pentachlorophenol may also be heated with compounds capable of reacting to give the ether of the methylol compound, e.g. methylol urea and the alcohol or urea, paraformaldehyde and the alcohol. The product is a resin which is soluble in organic solvents, especially chlorinated hydrocarbons. The solutions can readily be emulsified with water. Derivatives of urea include polyureas by reacting polyamines with urea, ethylene urea, propylene urea, dioxyethylene urea, oxypropylene urea, biuret and aminotriazines.ALSO:A condensation product having fungicidal properties is prepared by heating pentachlorophenol with an ether of a methylol compound of urea or a derivative of urea which forms an N-methylol compound when reacted with formaldehyd,e with a C1-C5 aliphatic alcohol. The resultant resin has similar fungicidal properties to that of the weight of pentachlorophenol in the condensation product.
