Abstract
Stoving lacquers comprise an ethoxyline resin and/or a phenol/formaldehyde, cresol/formaldehyde, urea/formaldehyde or melamine/formaldehyde resin and a polyvinyl mixed acetal obtained by condensing polyvinyl alcohol with a mixture of butyraldehyde and acetaldehyde in a molar ratio of 0.1 to 2. The ethoxyline resin may be a condensate of diphenylol propane and epichlorhydrin. The aminoplasts may be etherified, e.g. with butanol. Examples describe stoving lacquers comprising polyvinyl mixed acetals and (1) ethoxyline resin and ethylene glycol, (2) phenol/formaldehyde resin and ethanol, (3) ethoxyline resin, phenol/formaldehyde resin, ethylene glycol, butylene glycol and ethanol, (4) urea/formaldehyde resin, ethanol, ethyl acetate and butanol and (5) ethoxyline resin, melamine/formaldehyde resin, ethylene glycol, methyl isobutyl ketone and butanol.ALSO:Metals may be coated with stoving lacquers comprising an ethoxyline resin and/or a phenol/formaldehyde, cresol/formaldehyde, urea/formaldehyde or melamine/formaldehyde resin and a polyvinyl mixed acetal obtained by condensing polyvinyl alcohol with a mixture of butyraldehyde and acetaldehyde in a molar ratio of 0,1 : 2. The ethoxyline resin may be a diphenylol propane/epichlorhydrin condensate. The aminoplasts may be etherified, e.g. with butanol. In examples, iron sheets suitable for the manufacture of tin cans for foodstuffs are coated with stoving lacquers comprising polyvinyl mixed acetals and (1) ethoxyline resin and ethylene glycol, (2) phenol/formaldehyde resin and ethanol, (3) ethoxyline resin, phenol/formaldehyde resin, ethylene glycol, butylene glycol and ethanol, (4) urea/formaldehyde resin, ethanol, ethyl acetate and butanol, and (5) ethoxyline resin, melamine/formaldehyde resin, ethylene glycol, methyl isobutyl ketone and butanol.
