Abstract
1,110,077. Thermographic contact printing. VIEWLEX Inc. Dec.14, 1965 [May 4, 1965 to No.52987/65. Heading G2A. Original and copy sheets are passed together between rollers 1 and 2, roller 2 being a glass cylinder within which is a heat lamp 3 focused by a reflector on to the line of contact between the rollers. On the shaft 4 of roller 1 is a cam 5, which, as it rotates, engages against the central blade 6 of a switch 7, causing it to touch alternately one contact (8) and then the other (9) of the switch Fig. 2 (not shown). When contact (6, 8) is closed, a capacitor (10) is charged up from a power source. On breaking this contact and closing the other contact (6, 9), a solenoid (14) is energized, closing a relay contact (15) and so connecting the lamp to the mains supply. The lamp is now energized, and remains on for a period slightly greater than one complete rotation of the rollers, this period being determined by the values of the capacitor (13) and the solenoid. Thus before the lamp is de-energized again, switch 7 has operated to charge up the capacitor (13) once more, and so the lamp remains on. If for any reason the rollers stop rotating, capacitor (13) is not re-charged once it has lost its charge, so that relay (15) is also de-energized and the lamp circuit is broken. Thus if the rollers stop, the lamp is automatically switched off, so preventing damage to the stationary rollers and sheets by overheating.
