Abstract
787,586. Rotating drum driers. ROBERTSHAW-FULTON CONTROLS, CO. Dec. 1, 1954 [Jan. 5, 1954], No. 34821/54. Class 34(2) [Also in Groups XXXV and XXXVII] The control device of Specification 787,654 has an extra set of contacts 158, 160 controllable by a cam 184 on the knob 18 and by the diaphragm 20, said contacts controlling an extra heating winding 186. The contacts 158, 160 are controlled by an arm 164 on a shaft 168 carrying an arm 172. When the knob is in the "off" position, the cam 184 clears the end 182 of a lever 179 so that a spring plunger 174 presses against the arm 172 to hold contacts 158, 160 closed, main contacts 108, 120 however being open. Rotation of the knob to the "start" position engages cam 184 with lever 179 and withdraws the plunger 174 from arm 172 which is left under the control of diaphragm 20 and actuating lever 28, the contacts 158, 160 remaining closed when diaphragm 20 is cold, so that heaters 130, 186 are energized in parallel. As the diaphragm expands, lever 28 moves away from arm 172 and contacts 158, 160 open under the bias of a spring 152 carrying contact 158 leaving heater 130 energized. The two heaters 130, 186 may be replaced by a centre-tapped heater (Fig. 10, not shown). Specification 650.601 is also referred to.
