Abstract

A metal polishing composition comprises 30-35% sulphonated sodium oleate and 20-30% diethanolamine, together constituting a fluid base, and up to 40% of abrasive consisting of 20-35% of a Tripoli and 0-10% of any other abrasive powders, the combined fluid base and abrasive comprising 85-95% of the composition and the balance being carbonate-free water; all percentages being given by weight of the final overall composition. Cream of Tripoli and Rose Tripoli are examples given for the Tripoli component, and emery powder and alumina may be used as the other abrasive powders. The composition is brought to pH 7, e.g. by addition of citric or tartaric acid.
