Abstract
1,109,333. Vehicle supply systems. L'- ECLAIRAGE DES VEHICULES SUR RAIL. 17 March, 1966 [18 March, 1965; 7 April, 1965], No . 11842/66. Heading H2H. A system wherein a battery 3 is charged from a three-phase alternator 1 by way of a bridge rectifier 2 includes a further incomplete rectifier made up of the diodes 21-23 of the rectifier 2 and diodes 41, 42, by way of which bridge the auxiliary loads 5 are supplied by the alternator at a lower voltage than the charging voltage of the battery 3. When the alternator output voltage is insufficient to charge the battery a circuit breaker 6, 7 will be sufficiently deenergized for contacts 6 to make whereupon the load 5 will be supplied by the battery. If desired a device having a constant volt drop may be connected in the lead between the rectifiers 41, 42 and the load 5. In another embodiment the circuit breaker 6, 7 is replaced by a thyristor. In yet another embodiment two batteries are provided together with changeover switches thus allowing one or the other of the batteries to be charged whilst the battery ,not being charged " floats " on the system.
