Abstract

1,151,694. Battery charging systems. ROVER CO. Ltd. 25 Aug., 1966 [25 May, 1965], No. 22038/65. Heading H2H. [Also in Division G3] A generator A is connected over an isolating rectifier unit D to charge at least two batteries B1 B2, each of which is associated by means of a switch IG and respective relays R1, R2 with separate transistorized control units C1, C2, both connected to the field winding F of the generator. Each control unit can provide full field excitation alone, so the generator output is kept at its maximum so long as one of the batteries is wholly or partially discharged even though the other battery may be fully charged. The control units may be of the vibrating contact type and isolating diodes may be connected between the units and the field winding (Fig. 2, not shown). An arrangement suitable for both positive earth and negative earth systems is described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown).
