Abstract

1465693 Vehicle electrical systems C A V Ltd 16 April 1974 [11 May 1973] 22473/73 Heading H2H An electrical system for a road vehicle comprises two, equal voltage, batteries 11, 16 connected in series and means for charging the batteries, the normal vehicle loads 15 being supplied by the battery 11 but the starter motor 18 being energized by both batteries 11, 16, in series. The battery 11 is charged by the vehicle generator 14 and the battery 16 by a voltage doubler 22, the input to which is supplied by the battery 11 and the output from which is connected across the batteries 16, 11 in series, which output is provided with means so that the maximum current output is predeterminable. The starter motor is energizable by means of a starter switch 21, a relay 19 and its contact 17. The voltage doubler may be of any suitable design such as an oscillator and a rectifier.
