Abstract

1,108,266. Hydraulic damping device. N. E. BUTCHER. 25 Oct., 1965 [31 Aug., 1964], No. 35483/64. Heading F2S. An hydraulic damping device comprises an outer casing 12 having a pressure tube 17 concentrically secured therein, the space therebetween forming a fluid reservoir. The reservoir communicates with a chamber formed at the lower end of the device through a plurality of passageways and in turn the chamber communicates with the pressure tube through a one-way valve 24. The upper end of the pressure tube is connected through orifices M, a capillary tube 13, and a further one-way valve 28. A piston 18 provided with a one-way valve 19 is slidably mounted in the pressure tube, the one-way valve system formmg a one-way fluid circulation in the damping device. A small orifice formed in a wall 32 within the chamber causes fluid to flow into the upper part of the chamber beneath valve 24 in a jet which tends to reduce cavitation.
