[Also in Division E2] In an hydraulic damper, fluid freely enters the cylinder 17 from within the casing 1 through an inlet port 29 past non-return valve 31, and is displaced back into the casing under pressure from the plunger 18 via flow-restricting passage 32, storage chamber and orifice 25, which is controlled by needle-valve 26. This route by-passes the non-return valve, and provides the checking action.
