Abstract

1,190,943. Shock absorbers. C. U. PEDDINGHAUS. 23 May, 1967 [2 Sept., 1966; 11 Nov., 1966; 28 Nov., 1966], No. 23782/67. Heading F2S. A piston-type hydraulic shock absorber has a partition intermediate the cylinder end walls to define a damping fluid reservoir with a pressurized gas cushion 13 and a passageway 15 therethrough for non-turbulent flow of damping fluid, the passageway opening into said reservoir at a position or orientation to direct fluid flowing into the reservoir away from the gas-damping fluid interface. The pipe 15 may have elements 20 inducing helical flow to separate out gas bubbles by centrifugal effect or throttling elements 19. In a modification the pipe is of U- shape, the shock absorber being intended for use with the piston rod extending downwardly.
