Abstract

[Also in Division F2] In a change speed gear for setting the tariff in an excess consumption electricity meter wherein an axially slidable and laterally movable idler 10 in permanent mesh with an output pinion 13 is selectively engaged with stepped pinions of a driving cone 3, closely spaced ratios are provided with a cone 3 made of plastics material by forming the cone in two parts 4, 5 each having stepped pinions which alter uniformly in size and in which the pinion closest in size to a pinion of one part is in the other part. As shown the two parts 4, 5 are mounted back to back and may be integral, whilst in Fig. 3 (not shown) two separate cones are mounted on the input shaft. The pinions of each part differ in size by six teeth which is the minimum difference to permit the cone being withdrawn from a mould. The pinions of one part 5 differ in size by three teeth from the pinions of the other part 4. The cones may be hollow and may have strengthening ribs (15).
