Abstract

1,107,649. Heating and cooling air. E. W. BORROW. 28 Oct., 1966 [13 Nov., 1965], No: 8288/65. Heading F4S. Air is selectively heated or cooled as it is blown over a heat exchanger consisting of a plurality of tubes forming part of a closed circuit through which a liquid such as water is cycled, a heater and a cooler being disposed in said circuit operable alternatively to heat or cool said liquid. As shown the heat exchanger comprises vertical tubes 5 extending between tanks 6 and 7 and providing a flow path for the liquid therebetween, a pipe 9 with an interposed electrically driven pump 10 interconnecting said tanks to complete a flow circuit for the liquid. Tank 6 contains a cooler formed by the evaporator 11 of a compressor-type refrigerator unit 12 and tank 7 contains heating means such as an electric immersion heater 16. A fan 20 driven by a variable speed electric motor 21 draws air over the tubes 5 into an inlet 22 and exits same through an outlet 23. Control means (not shown) are provided for activating either the heating unit 16 or the refrigerating unit 12 as required, the water temperature being controlled thermostatically.
