Abstract

1,107,644. Switches held set and freed mechanically. PLESSEY-UK Ltd. 3 June, 1965 [4 June, 1964], No. 23166/64. Heading H1N. Rotation of a control knob 10 causes rotation of a threaded shaft 13 bearing acarriage 14 which is contained against rotation on shaft 13 and which displaces a pinion 8 along a shaft 9 into a selected position for driving engagement with a rotor wheel 5 then rotation of a control knob 22 rotates shaft 9 and thus rotates the selected wheel 5 via pinion 8 and moves the contact wiper 4 of wheel 5 (Fig. 3, not shown) until it engages a selected. contact on an associated printed circuit board 3. Simultaneously knob 22 rotates on indicator disc 27 such that characters visible at a window 30 (Fig. 4, not shown) signify the particular outlet of the switch unit engaged by the wiper 4. Pressure on a reset button 31 unlatches detents such as 32 from the selected wheel 5 which is then restored to a datum position by axial return springs 33 (Fig. 5, not shown) which are stressed when wheel 5 is rotated to a selected position. Alternatively the wheel 5 may be returned manually to a stop position before rotation to another selected position. Pinion 8 is indexed in position for engaging a wheel 5 by a spring pressure ball engaging indentations 18 in a member 19 of casing 1. Carriage 14 carries a pointer 20 which shows in an illuminated window 21 the switch unit or rotor wheel 5 selected by knob 10.
