Abstract

1,107,531. Vibrating conveyers. ACME CONVEYORS Ltd. 18 May, 1966 [19 Feb., 1965], No. 7161/65. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F4] Particulate material, e.g. sand, is heated or cooled while being advanced along a plurality of parallel channels subjected to longitudinal vibratory movement, the channels each having a depth which is at least twice its maximum width. As shown, the channels 12 are formed in a metal sheet 11 supported in a housing 10 to which vibratory movement is applied via links 24. Water is caused to flow through the space 21 between the sheet 11 and housing 10 in countercurrent to the direction of movement of the material within the channels and water may also be sprayed over the material. Alternatively the material is heated either by passing hot air through space 21 or by providing electric heating elements or gas burners in space 21 beneath each of the spaces 20 between adjacent channels. The material in the channels may be fluidized by supplying air to tubes disposed in the channels and having perforations in their under-sides. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the channels are defined by spaced parallel plates and are open-bottomed. Each plate is formed with a longitudinally extending tubular portion in which an electric heating element is disposed.
