Abstract

1525752 Screw conveyers PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC CO 5 Sept 1975 [6 Sept 1974] 36583/75 Heading B8A [Also in Division F4] In a rotary retort furnace 12 for heat treating workpieces comprising a cylindrical retort 10 which is provided with a helical flight member 30 on its internal surface 28, the flight member 30 is held in position by a pair of helical guide strips 32, 34 which are secured to the internal surface by means of continuous welds 52, 48, the arrangement being such as to permit, in use, the helical flight member to freely expand and contract relative to the internal surface 28 of the retort and so prevent thermal stress cracking in the retort and flight member adjacent their interface. The flight member 30 is welded at each of its extreme ends 60 and 62 to the interior surface 28 to anchor it within the retort. The outer surface 18 of the retort 10 is heated by a surrounding heating chamber 16.
