Abstract
1,105,883. Cartridge-actuated tools. AMP Inc. 29 March, 1966, No. 13729/66. Addition to 959,884. Heading B4C. [Also in Division H2] A method of driving a plug 22 into a receptacle 20 comprises burning an explosive charge contained in the plug so that the gases generated by the burning of the charge drives the plug into the receptacle. As applied to driving a plug 22 into a connector 20 for securing a pair of electrical cables (C, C1, Fig. 3), the latter are placed in the connector and the plug inserted between, the end of a pin 46 then being inserted into a bore 32 in the plug containing a cartridge 36. The assembly is then placed on a body member 40 so that the connector abuts a projection 42 and a flange 52 in the pin abuts a barrel member 44. Upon striking a head 50 of the pin, the cartridge is fired so that the explosive gases drive the plug into the connector.
