Abstract

1,105,786. Feeding tobacco. TABAKUND INDUSTRIEMASCHINEN DRESDEN VEB. 21 Jan., 1966, No. 2806/66. Heading A2C. Tobacco fed from a hopper 3 via a vertical pipe 4 to a chamber 5 is entrained in an air stream issuing from a horizontal nozzle 6 and conveyed by a pipe 7 to a rod forming device 9 having a perforated plate 11 which radially compacts the tobacco stream and allows the major proportion of air (about 75%) to escape through outlets 13. The tobacco stream then passes through a pipe 14 to a system of suction conveyers where it is longitudinally compacted to form a rod. The suction conveyers may comprise endless perforated bands 15 and 16 which travel over suction boxes 19. The guide roll 20 associated with the band 15 may also have suction applied thereto. Alternatively, the bands may be replaced by a grooved roller around a portion of the periphery of which runs a perforated band, the roller being enclosed in a space to which suction is applied, Fig. 6 (not shown). Suction may be applied to the chamber 5 via outlets 8.
