Abstract

1,177,584. Feeding tobacco. TABAK-UND INDUSTRIEMASCHINEN DRESDEN VEB. 30 March, 1968, No. 15433/68. Heading A2C. In an apparatus for producing a continuous tobacco rod in which a pneumatically conveyed stream of tobacco is fed at high speed to a transfer point located with clearance from the peripheral jacket 40 of a suction conveyer wheel 39 and the tobacco particles are transferred from there in the form of a jet to the jacket 40, the suction conveyer passage for conveying the tobacco from a distributor (Fig. 1, not shown) to the wheel 39 is divided into several passage tubes 19, 20, 21, the tubes being directed at such an angle of feed that their extended longitudinal medial lines intersect the periphery of the wheel 39. The tubes 19, 20, 21 are conically flared to receive cut tobacco from a conventional distributor in which the tobacco is fed from a reservoir (1) via a spiked roller (5), a stripping roller (6), a beater roller (7), a scattering blanket (8), a deflecting roller (9) and a transfer roller (10) to the flared ends of said tubes. The tubes 19, 20, 21 lead into a closed flow chamber 25 connected to a suction source through openings 29 and communicating with the tubes 19, 20, 21, through perforated windows 28 in said tubes. The tobacco stream formed on the wheel 39 is trimmed in conventional manner.
