Abstract
1,105,509. Motor vehicle driving arrangements. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. 24 Nov., 1966 [23 Sept., 1965], No. 40511/65. Heading B7H. A motor vehicle drive arrangement comprises a pair of horizontally disposed engines 3 and 4 whose crank-shafts are parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and which drive, through shafts 13 having universal joints 14 and 15, pinions 11 and 12 which engage a pinion 10 connected to the input of a clutch 16. An output shaft 17 from the clutch is connected to a change-speed gear whose output shaft 18 drives a differential gear 19 whose output shafts 20 and 21 are connected to differential gears 22 and 23 in the axles of each of a pair of tandem axles, respectively. Either engine may be uncoupled for economic driving in the unladen state. One or both of the tandem wheel pairs may be steered by a rack-andpinion mechanism.
