Abstract
1,104,901. Rolling wheels. WILHELM HEGENSCHEIDT KOMM. GES. 21 Jan., 1966 [25 Jan., 1965; 1 Feb., 1965], No. 2908/66. Heading B3M. Apparatus for smoothing and form rolling the tread surface of the wheel rim of a railway wheel set 6 includes, for each wheel 9, a head 15 which carries rolls 13 and 22, Fig. 3, and which is urged into contact with the wheel rim by an hydraulic cylinder 4. The cylinder is positioned on the cross beam 3 of a housing 2, while the wheel set 6 is supported on pairs of driven rollers 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. Each head is pivoted at 23 to the piston rod of cylinder 4 and includes a pair of plates between which the rolls 22 and 13 are mounted, the roll 13 being supported in a casing 14 which is pivoted at 16 to the plates. During rolling the fluid flow to cylinder 4 is gradually decreased, to cause the head 15 to rise and pivot anticlockwise about the point 23. The pressure in cylinder 18 remains constant, resulting in the head being traversed across the wheel rim with the inclination of the roll 13 progressively changing. The roll 22 serves as a support for the rim and prevents axial forces being transmitted to the wheel set. Each head is provided with a rigid arm extend ing rearwardly to a support of adjustable height, thus enabling wheels of different diameters to be readily accommodated for rolling.
