Abstract

1,104,722. Boots &c. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd. 30 Nov., 1964 [30 Nov., 1963], No. 47364/63. Heading A3B. A press for use in attaching a toe-puff P, coated with heat sensitive adhesive, to a shoe upper U comprises a fixed lower platen 10 and a resilient upper platen 12 carried by a pneumatic piston and cylinder 14, 16. A membrane 18 of glass fibre cloth impregnated with silicone rubber is peripherally sealed to the platen 12 and encloses a low melting point alloy 20. The platen 12 is heated to a temperature sufficient to melt the alloy and to activate the adhesive on the toe puff.
