Class 17(2) A rigid, external, toe cap 11 for a boot of rubber or rubber-like material, which is made of metal or plastics or a combination of the two, is provided with a rearward extension 12 which is secured within the thickness of the upper by bonding, adhesive or moulding into the upper. This extension may be of wire mesh or openwork metal soldered or welded on to the rearward part of the toe cap, or of moulded rubber or like material. A base plate 14 may be attached by welding, brazing or the like to the toe cap. The boot may have a pre-moulded sole and heel unit or a calendered sole and a moulded heel. The boot may be provided with a metal sole plate such as the one described in Specification 863,944.
