Abstract

1,104,520. Jacks. OCEAN SYSTEMS Inc. 30 Sept., 1966 [4 Oct., 1965], No. 43689/66. Heading B8J. [Also in Division B7] Apparatus for lifting a grounded ship (see Division B7) comprises a plurality of expansible cushions of fabric reinforced elastomeric material connected to a source of liquid under pressure. The cushion shown in Fig. 3 is a generally cylindrical accordion-pleated bag with means for lubricating the end 370 in contact with the ship, a connection 382 through which liquid is injected to expand the bag, and rings 72 to which connections may be made to other cushions to form a mattress. In Fig. 6 (not shown) a number of generally oblate spherical. shaped bags are connected in piles and the piles connected to form a mattress connected to liquid under pressure. The mattress may be formed by layers of elongate fluid storage bags laid criss-cross (Fig. 7, not shown).
