Abstract

512,197. Lifting by inflation of collapsable receptacles. MULLER, G. Aug. 17, 1938, No. 24270. [Classes 78 (ii) and 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A damaged aeroplane is lifted from the ground by air cushions 14 which are inserted between the aeroplane and the ground and inflated so as to exert a lifting pressure directly upon the aeroplane structure over an extensive area. The cushions are inflated until the aeroplane is raised to a height permitting trolleys 16 to be placed under it, and then deflated. The trolleys may be fitted with hydraulic 'lifting means 18 and air cushions 17 whereby the aeroplane may be lifted higher to clear obstacles. The cushions may be cylindrical or torpedo-shaped and may comprise a plurality of tubes fastened together. They are provided with attachment means at their ends whereby they may be pulled beneath the aeroplane when deflated. They may be inserted in pits dug in the ground.
