Abstract

1,104,298. Cutting tubes. CYRIL ADAMS & CO. Ltd. 2 March, 1965 [6 March, 1964], No. 9519/64. Headings B4B and B5A. Tubing, e.g. plastics tubing from an extruder, is cut into lengths by apparatus comprising a rotatable carriage which supports a cutting device and through which the tubing continuously passes. A detecting element controls a servo-mechanism actuating the cutting element of the cutting device. The cutting device comprises a carrier 3 which is rotated by an electric motor and which supports a knife 92 movable radially towards the tubing by a dog leg cam 45 carried by a cam ring 48 which is concentric with the carrier and which is movable by a pivoted cross-head actuated by a fluid motor 60 the supply to which is controlled by a servovalve actuated by the detecting element comprising a rocking lever 73, carried by an adjustable bracket. The carrier moves with the tubing by virtue of the engagement between the cutting blade and the tubing but a pneumatically operated servo-controlled clamping device may be provided for this purpose.
