Abstract

1,144,276. Cutting tubes. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE A.G. 21 July, 1967 [31 Aug., 1966], No. 33544/67. Heading B4B. Apparatus for cutting a tube 4 of rubber or plastics material into rings comprises a clamping device 2 having jaws connected to a common vacuum pipe line 15. The jaws have circumferential ducts 13, Fig. 3, from which narrower passages 16 extend at intervals and penetrate to the inner surface of the jaws or which ducts 13 extend into an annular groove 17 open at the inner surface of the jaws, the groove containing an insert of porous sintered metal or an opencelled plastics foam. The inner diameter of the clamping device is equal to or less than the outer diameter of the tube. The tube, which is supported on a roller track 6 and fed intermittently by a unit 3 comprising clamping jaws operable by a double-acting pressure cylinder 5, is cut into rings by means of a circular cutter 8 driven by an electric motor 9 mounted on a carrier 7 pivoted on a pin 10 and reciprocable angularly by a motor 11 via a crank drive 12. The pipe line 15 is connected to a vacuum cylinder 19 pivotally mounted on the frame 1 and having its piston-rod connected to the carrier 7 so that the clamping device becomes automatically effective when the carrier is swung towards the tube. The severed rings drop on to a shoot 20. There may be two or more clamping devices.
