Abstract
1290644 Seaming rubber GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 19 April 1971 [25 Feb 1970] 20643/71 Heading B5K A tube splicing machine 6, Fig. 1, includes a clamp assembly 8 for holding the ends 9, 10 of an unvulcanized inner tube 7. The clamp assembly comprises clamps 30, 31 carried by squeeze tables 18, 19. Each clamp 30, 31 comprises a pair of aligned end sections 34, 35, Fig. 2, which include shaped recesses 40 to receive opposite lateral curved edges 41, 42 of the inner tube 7 or a number of different tubes. A pair of removable intermediate or top and bottom sections 36, 37 abut between the end sections. Each section 34 ... 37 includes a rigid portion 38 with a bonded elastomeric portion 39. A squeeze assembly 11, Fig. 1, comprises squeeze tables 18, 19. Squeeze table 19 is adjustable by a screw 23 but is stationary and fixed during operation. Squeeze table 18 is actuated by a cylinder 25 to bring the ends of the tube 7 into splicing engagement. The clamps 30, 31 and squeeze tables 18, 19 move with clamp presses 32, 33, which are actuated by rams 73. When cutting is effected by knives 12, 13, Fig. 2, the knives are guided along a concave cutting pathway by co-operating cam-followers 14, 15, slides 60, 61, and projections 62, 63.
