Abstract

1347334 Cutting extruded pipe DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 15 Sept 1971 43073/71 Heading B5A Plastics pipe 3 is continuously extruded and biaxially stretched whilst internally supported by a gas pressure retained by plug means 6 around which the pipe is intermittently delivered, for severing into lengths by a cutter 2 e.g. a saw or knife. Delivery of the pipe 3 is effected by jaws 12 which clamp the pipe against an internal plug 9, with which the pipe is displaced by movement of the jaws 12 axially towards the plug 6 which is restrained against movement by movement of a punch 11 into abutment therewith. The pipe 3 is then clamped by jaws 5 against the plug 6, from which the punch 11 is displaced to permit severing of the pipe 3, the jaws 12 opening and moving axially away from the plug 6 to their position of initial clamping engagement to which the plug 9 is also returned, by a spring 8 surrounding a rod 7 along which the plug 9 slides in its axial movement.
