Abstract
1,104,013. Fuel supply systems; chimney fittings. ALCORN COMBUSTION CO. 3 Aug., 1966, No. 34757/66. Headings F4B and F4J. Off-gas from a catalyst regenerator of a cracking unit (not shown) is supplied through feed ducts 6 to be burnt with additional fuel in a carbon monoxide firing unit 7. The combustion products pass through exhaust duct 9 to stack 13. When the unit 7 is shut down for maintenance, the off-gases are diverted through by-pass duct 24 directly to stack 13. In this case gas flow to the firing unit through either ducts 6 or duct 9 is prevented by water-filled seal pots 1, 2 and guillotine dampers 36, 37. In normal operation, off-gas flow through bypass duct 24 is prevented by waterfilled seal pot 3. Seal pots 2 and 3 are formed integrally with the lower portion of stack 13 and comprise surrounding shrouds 32, 27 respectively arranged to dip under the surface of pools of water 22, 23 introduced through lines 33, 28.
