Abstract

110,399. British Insulated & Helsby Cables, Ltd., and Blades, R. W. Oct. 19, 1916. Junction boxes.-In an electric multicore cable dividing box, the several conductors are insulated by passing them through a common hollow insulator secured in one of the walls of the box and from and bv which the conductors are led out into the atmosphere. Fig. 1 shows the insulator applied to a box adapted to fit against a wall, post, &c. The upper portion 2 of the box is in the form of a lid which fits on a flat bottom plate 4 having a pendent neck portion 2<a> through which the cable enters the box. The hollow insulator is shown made in twd parts joined by a spigot and socket 7 with a packing 8, and is secured in the wall of the box by a metal ring 9 which engages a flange on the insulator. The parts of the conductors in the insulator are in the form of rods 14, 15 joined by threaded unions 17 whereby the external conductors 20 are spaced a wide distance apart. The insulator is filled with an insulating- compound through holes 24. Separating webs 30, 27 are formed on the upper and lower ends of the insulator and all the external parts are disposed within a shield 33 carried by the box.
