Abstract

1,103,702. Switchgear structures. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 14 July, 1965 [7 Aug., 1964; 10 Dec., 1964], Nos. 32192/64 and 50334/64. Heading H1N. In a switchgear having a circuit-breaker unit 1 movable between a position A in which it interconnects a busbar 15 and a cable 19 and positions B and C in which it connects one or the other of these to earth, a fuse 14 is connected in series with the circuit-breaker and means is provided to by-pass the fuse when the circuit-breaker unit is in either of the earthing positions. As shown, the fuse 14 is connected between a main terminal 11 and an auxiliary terminal 12 of the breaker unit; when the unit is in position A the connections are made by terminals 10, 12 but when it is in the earthing positions, connections are made by terminals 10, 11 excluding the fuse 14 from the circuit. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 1, not shown) the fuse 1 is located in the fixed part of the switchgear and arranged to be bridged by a blade switch (7) when the breaker unit is moved out of position A. The switch (7) is located in a compartment with a current transformer (27) while the fuse is in another compartment divided from the first by an insulating wall (3) and having a hinged cover (2). The switchgear may be arranged for three phase systems. The breaker unit may be horizontally withdrawable.
