Abstract

[Also in Divisions A4, B7 and F2] A suspension device, e.g. for pipes or rails, comprises a bracket for releasable attachment to a flanged supporting member 9 and an elongated suspension element 22 the bracket comprising a hook bolt 12, a claw 15 disposed in opposed relation to the hook of the hook bolt, a hanger member rotatably received on the shank of the hook bolt and a clamping means to grip the suspension element at any point along the length thereof, whereby the effective length of the suspension element between the hanger member and the member to be suspended is steplessly variable. In the construction shown in Fig. 2 the hanger member comprises a plate 10 and a tubular portion 11 formed either by bending the plate or by welding a tubular section to the plate, the tubular portion being received on the shank of the hook bolt. The claw 15 is secured to an L-shaped angle-piece 16 and the tubular portion of the hanger member is received between the claw and one limb 16b of the angle-piece, the limb 16b and the claw being apertured so that the hook bolt can pass through; the olaw and the hook bolt are urged into engagement with the supporting member 9 by a nut 17. The suspension element shown is a cable and the clamping means is a threaded post 20 which is fixed to the plate 10 and which has a transverse hole adjacent the plate to receive the cable which is clamped in position by a nut and washer on the post. In a modification the post extends through the plate 10 and transverse holes are provided on each side of the plate together with two nuts and washers. In a further modification two threaded posts are provided on the plate and the cable is secured between them by a clamping plate carried by the two posts. The cable can be looped around a pipe as shown, but, if desired, attachment members, e.g. for engaging a rail, can be carried by the cable. A chain can be substituted for a cable, if desired.
