Abstract

110,272. Douglas, W., (truding as Douglas Bros.). Feb. 8, 1917. Spring devices.-The shock-absorbing springs described in Specification 110,080 are provided with an auxiliary spring which is arranged in axial alinement with, and operatively connected to one end of, the main spring and adapted to be compressed after the main spring has been stressed to some extent. The auxiliary spring may be fitted, as shown at I, within the main spring F, or it may be arranged upon a rod K outside the main spring as shown at M; or both springs I, M may be used. When a single auxiliary spring is used and is disposed within the main spring, the central rod need not be employed. According to the Provisional Specification, (1) the coils of the auxiliary spring may be wound in the opposite sense to that of the main-spring coils, and (2) the outside auxiliary spring upon the rod K may be anchored at its ends so that it acts both in tension and compression.
