Abstract

1,102,577. Making wrappers. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd., and C. T. HALL. 4 May, 1965 [8 May, 1964], No. 19306/64. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B4] A composite sheet formed of two sheets of equal length, one being displaced longitudinally with respect to the other, is produced by gluing at 10, Fig. 2, a web 9 to a web 8, transversely cutting the web 9 at 12, moving one of the cut ends of the web 9 relative to the web 8 so that the latter may be transversely cut at a different position (13), Fig. 3 (not shown). In the embodiment for producing a wrapper for, e.g. a batch of cigarettes, having a lifting ship (4) projecting beyond one end, Fig. 1 (not shown), adhesive spots are applied to the web 9, Fig. 4, at intervals by a dauber roll 23, which is then fed into contact with the web 8 by feed rollers 15, 16, a cut 7, Fig. 2, in the web 8 having previously been made by reciprocating knife 30. The combined web then passes between a knife carrier 33 and rotatable anvil 37 whose knives 34, 35 are positioned for making cuts 11, Fig. 2, in the web 8 and a knife 36 for making the transverse cut 12 only in the web 9. Draw rolls 48, 49 rotating at a slightly greater peripheral speed than that of the feed rolls 15, 16, keep the web taut while it is being cut. The trailing end of the cut web 9 is then accelerated in the direction of its motion by a movable suction nozzle 50 so as to leave a gap between the two cut edges of the web 9 through which the web 8 is cut by a knife 51. This apparatus may be included in a machine for folding the wrapper around, e.g. a batch of cigarettes.
