Abstract
1,099,503. Forming wrappers with tear strips. MOLINS ORGANISATION Ltd., and R. W. HARRIS. June 25, 1965 [July 29, 1964], No. 30123/64. Heading B8C. Apparatus for wrapping a cigarette packet &c. includes means to apply a tear strip to each wrapper, comprising guide means past which the wrapper web is fed and cutting means to sever the strip from a web of a width equal to the desired length of the strip, and means to transfer the strip to the wrapper web to adhere it to the latter, the free end of the strip being held by the transfer means during cutting and the guide means moving relative to the transfer means to guide the web past the latter when the tear strip web is again advanced. The wrapper web 1 is drawn by rolls 2 beneath a rotating member 5 bearing the surface 6, to cutters 7, 8. The strip web 9 passes between rolls 10, 11 and guides 14, 15, the former of which has fingers entering grooves in the roll 11, to extend between cutters 16, 17. The guides are mounted on a carriage 18. The cutter 17 is secured on a cross-bar 38 joined at its ends to two members 36 (37), see also Fig. 3 (not shown), fixed on a shaft 50. These members carry rails 23, (24) which support rollers 19 (20), 21, (22) of the carriage 18 on which also is resiliently mounted the cutter 16. The cutter 17 is reciprocated by cams 56, 57 on a shaft 58 and links 51, 52, the link 51 being secured on the shaft 50. Further cams 65, 66, Fig. 1 (not shown), mounted on the shaft 58 opposite the members 36, 37 reciprocate the carriage. The transfer member 74 comprises a suction head 74 and is oscillated with a shaft 23 by sector gear elements 71, 72 operated by a further cam 67 on the shaft 58. The head holds the leading end of the web 9 during cutting and then transfers the strip to the web 1, previously supplied with strips of adhesive, pressure being applied between the head and a surface 6.
