Abstract
1,102,406. Change-speed control. PLESSEY-UK Ltd. 3 June, 1965 [10 March, 1964], No. 10036/64. Heading F2D. [Also in Division B8] A variable displacement pump 9, Fig. 1, in the hydraulic drive of a winch drum 1 is controlled between positive and negative displacements for maintaining constant tension in a rope 2 during both haul in and pay-out. In the particular example the winch housing 4 is mounted on a pivot 5 and resiliently held by a spring 14 whereby its movements may be used to control the pump 9 through a pivoted cam 13 and hydraulic servo systems 11, 16, 21. A manual control may be coupled to the actuating piston rod 23, the servo system being disabled by a by-pass valve. In modifications the servo valve 16 may be solenoid actuated and may be controlled by the system pressure or movement of the winch housing 4.
