Abstract
A method of controlling catalytic hydroforming of hydrocarbons to minimise coke formation on catalyst comprises contacting a hydrogen-naphtha mixture with a hydroforming catalyst under hydroforming conditions to produce hydroformate, separating gas from liquid hydroformate, passing a portion of the liquid hydroformate through an ultraviolet analyser to determine the ultraviolet absorbency value at a wavelength between 319 and 430 mm , and employing said absorbency value to adjust a process variable in the catalytic hydroforming process. The variable controlled may be temperature, space velocity, feed boiling range, feed contamination level or water content.
