Abstract
1413442 Heating sludge by contact with steam G NAKAMURA 14 Jan 1974 [10 March 1973] 01626/74 Heading F4K Industrial or sewage sludge is heat treated by direct contact with stream by passing the sludge (e.g. in the form of plugs) and steam together through a pipe 12 which terminates within a vessel 10 and has at its outlet end a perforated mouthpiece (e.g. a perforated plate) 13, Fig. 2 or 16, Fig. 3, whereby the sludge plugs are extruded as thin strings together with the steam, into the vessel 10 from which the heated sludge is removed at 14. The upper end of the pipe 12 may comprise an expanded-area passage member 17 as shown in Fig. 3.
