Abstract

1,102,122. Seals. EARBY LIGHT ENGINEERS Ltd. 9 Nov., 1964 [9 Nov., 1963], No. 44313/63. Heading F2B. A packing ring assembly comprises a housing 17 which is formed of a pair of discs 11, 12 having opposed axially-directed peripheral flanges 13, 14 and a sealing ring 18 which is received within, and of less diameter than, the internal diameter of the housing, the ring being radially but not axially displaceable within the housing. The housing may be clamped by a gland 23 with the interposition of soft packing 26 and the sealing ring 18 prevented from rotating by a pin 30. If desired, both the ring 18 and discs 11, 12 may be split to facilitate assembly. The packing ring assembly may be made of metal or a plastic such as polythene.
