Abstract
1,102,036. Stereophonic loud-speaker systems. F. H. MAGNUS. 22 July, 1965 [13 April, 1965], No. 31206/65. Headings H4J, H4R and H4X. A sterophonic loud-speaker system (Fig. 1A) comprises a central blending chamber 10 and two side chambers 11-1, 11-2. Bass speakers 15-1 and (15-2, Fig. 1B, not shown), one for each channel, are in opposite walls of the chamber 10. A mid-range speaker 20-1 and treble speakers 21-2, 22-2 for one channel together with mid-range speaker 20-2 and treble speakers 21-1, 22-1 for the other channel are provided in the front wall. Connections are made to the various speakers from a stereophonic amplifier via a two-channel cross-over network. Chambers 11-1 and 11-2 provide resonance for the bass speakers 15-1 and 15-2. Rearward propagation from the speakers is mixed in the chamber 10 and emerges through a frontal aperture 18. The system may be included in a cabinet 30, Figs. 2A, 2B, 2C (not shown), housing an amplifier 31 and a recordplayer 32. The front walls of the chambers 11-1 and 11-2 may include frontal apertures (35-1, 35-2) covered by grille cloth. A rack (37) at the rear of the cabinet may be used for record storage. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 3A), three frontal apertures 50 are provided. Four mid- and high-range speakers 49 each having their rear diaphragms shielded by a metal frame are mounted on the outside of the rear wall of the central blending chamber, two at each end, to direct their acoustic energy into the chamber. Apertures 47-1, 47-2 are provided in partitions separating the central blending chamber and two side chambers 41-1 and 41-2. An aperture 44-1, 44-2 is provided in the frontal wall of each side chamber.
