Abstract

1,101,941. Band brakes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 4 July, 1966 [12 Aug., 1965], No. 34551/65. Heading F2E. A brake for holding stationary one element of a gear train in a change-speed gear mechanism comprises a brake band 10 co-operating with a brake drum 11. The brake band 10 is provided at its ends with projections 17, 18, the projection 17 abutting a stationary bar 21 and the projection 18 being engaged by a strut 23 of a linkage which includes a pivoted lever 16. The linkage is activated by force from a piston 24, the force being transmitted to the lever 16 through a spring 33, a rod 25 slidably engaging the piston 24, and an adjustable nut 27 having a part spherical surface 28. The piston 24 is urged towards its inoperative position by a further spring 39.
