Abstract

1,070,611. Handbrakes. H. O. SCHROTER. May 17, 1965, No. 20814/65. Heading F2E. In a handbrake system lever means 1, 4 are arranged so that as the lever 1 is moved to apply the brakes the mechanical advantage increases and spring means 12 act via a roller provided on a pivoted lever 10 and a cam member 7 on the lever 1 to assist the brake application only after the lever 1 has moved a predetermined amount, which amount is adjustable by means of the pin and slot connection between the cam 7 and lever 1. The surface of the cam 7 is so arranged that at first it is concentric with the pivot 2 of the lever 1 (no resistance therefore being provided) and then the surface projects outwardly to gradually increase the assistance. In modifications the lever 1 is a bent lever and the spring is attached at one end to the lever and at the other to a pivoted link which abuts a fixed stop when the handbrake is in the released position and for the first predetermined part of the brake applying movement of the lever, the stop being so arranged that the spring force acts through the pivot of the lever 1 during this time and thus provides no brake application assistance.
