Abstract
1,101,654. Haymaking machines. TEXAS INDUSTRIES Inc. 26 Feb., 1965 [6 March, 1964], No. 8516/65. Heading A1F. In a rake-wheel type haymaking machine the main frame 1, 5 is shaped like a "figure 7" and carries a supporting beam 18, on which the rake wheels 23 are mounted by rigid stub-axles 20, parallel to and above the longer leg 5 of the frame, the supporting beam 18 being pivoted by hinges 17 to the frame-leg 5 and being liftable bodily about the hinges by means of a lifting device 24, 25 carried by the main frame, there being a spring 29, secured between lugs 27, 28 carried respectively by the beam 18 and frame-leg 5, the line of action of the spring passing substantially through the hinge-axis during normal operation, so that the spring has little effect on the pressure which the rakewheels exert on the crop, but becoming increasingly remote from the axis as the beam 18 is lifted so that the spring progressively provides more assistance in lifting the rake-wheels. The frame is carried on three swivel-wheels 3, 6, 7 one of which, 6, is lockable and another, 3, is turnable with a drawbar 11 by which the frame is attached to the towing tractor. The tractor-driver operates the lifting mechanism through a cable 30.
