Abstract
A rope having resistance to degradation, e.g. fusing by frictional heat comprises a load carrying core, e.g. of filaments of synthetic material such as nylon, Terylene (R.T.M.), or polypropylene surrounded by a sheath of different material, e.g. silicone treated glass fibre which has a higher melting point than the fibres of the core and a low thermal conductivity. The core filaments may be parallel and run the full length of the rope or they may be cable laid. The external sheath may be braided or of circularly woven construction. A braided sheath of the same material as the core may be arranged between the core and the external sheath.
