Abstract

1,101,077. Valves. E.P.S. (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. 6 Oct., 1966 [9 Oct., 1964], No. 41228/64. Heading F2V. An oral inflation valve, e.g. for surgical splints comprises a cylindrical housing 1 defining a seat 2 and a closure member 10 integral with a spindle 9 having a flattened end 12. When the spindle is rotated through 90 degrees from the position shown, the flattened end rides on a surface 14 until it is aligned with slots 8 in the housing, at which point the closure member can be moved axially to its open position. To close the valve, projections 13 on end 12 are engaged by the user's teeth and the spindle is pulled upwardly and then rotated to place the end 12 out of line with the slots. The housing and/or the closure member are of resilient and deformable material, e.g. polythene. The closure member may be conical and the part 4 of the housing may be cylindrical.
