Abstract
1,100,909. Pressure-resisting doors. WILMOT CASTLE CO. 27 May, 1966 [9 June, 1965], No. 23833/66. Heading F2P. A door 11 is slidably supported on and guided by flanged rollers 22 and a hollow, resilient, inflatable deformable and compressible seal 42 is actuated solely and directly by the action of closing the door. The seal is provided with a projection 44 which is seated in a groove 46 extending around the walls 14, 15 of the pressure vessel 10 and the door flanges 55, 56, when the door is closed, Fig. 3, compress and at least partially deflate the side wall portions of the seal thereby expelling at least a portion of the air or other fluid therefrom and into those portions of the seal extending along the top and bottom walls of the vessel. Stop members 34, 38 have flanges 37, 40 which coact with the rollers 22 to prevent movement of the door away from the vessel when in the closed position. In modifications, (a) the seal is mounted on the inside surface 30 of the door and (b) a compressible diaphragm, bellows or cylinder and piston is compressed or depressed by a contact or the leading edge of the door to inject fluid into the seal.
